"The best wine is not necessarily the most expensive, but the one that is shared", said the French singer-songwriter Georges Brassens. And with Christmas just around the corner, at Palacios Vinos de Finca we have selected the wines you can't miss in your home.
We pay more and more attention to detail, both in the food and in the wines we serve. We work on the menu for days, buying the ingredients long beforehand to make sure that nothing is missing. Our tables are decorated to the millimetre, with a predominance of red, green and white tones and Christmas motifs. All perfect for making a good impression on our guests, whether they are family or friends.
Christmas is family time. Yes, but times change and so is the time to share special moments with friends. And for all of them we are looking to offer the wines that pair perfectly with our menu. Starters, first and second courses, desserts... Nothing can be left to chance. Because at the table, we all sit that brother-in-law who watches what you do to the millimetre and questions your choices, setting himself up as an 'expert oenologist'. We assure you that with this selection you will not fail.
We have chosen three wines from our three wineries: Nivarius, Proelio and Trus. Three wines that speak of territory, of the land where they were born, both in Rioja and Ribera de Duero.
The first is our Trus Reserva; a wine with an intense personality, which combines the expression of the land with long ageing in the cellar. Its typicity comes from the roots of the oldest vineyards of our plots in Ribera de Duero. A wine to enjoy with your loved ones, available in Magnum so that no one is left without discovering the authentic character of Ribera. It is perfect for pairing with suckling lamb or with that cheese platter of cured cheeses that will surely be on your table this Christmas.
The second wine we recommend is our Puerto Rubio from Bodegas Proelio, one of our most awarded red wines and one of the 100 best wines in Spain, according to the American wine critic James Suckling. A wine made with tempranillo from old vineyards in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, a raw material that is a real treasure. A red wine, a direct messenger of the expression of the terroir, which speaks of privileged territories in Rioja, little explored and struggling to keep beating. Accompany this Tempranillo with a good beef steak, game dishes or with soft cheeses that usually open your lunches or dinners.
Rioja white wines are still unknown to many consumers. At Palacios Vinos de Finca we have a project to recover native white varieties with which we are making terroir and ageing wines. Two of these varieties are Viura and Maturana Blanca, which was practically extinct in La Rioja, and from the combination of which our Nivarius Edición Limitada is born. A "great blend of whites from high altitude vineyards", as the prestigious British Master of Wine Tim Atkin has pointed out. A structured and very expressive wine, which gains in nuances with time in the glass and that this Christmas you can pair with rice with lobster, baked fish or seafood such as red prawns.
Unique wines that we have proposed to accompany you on these special dates. Tinta Fina, Tempranillo, Viura and Maturana Blanca. Four varieties that combine with emotion, with the joy of sitting at a table again, all together, with the desire to share memories, to laugh, to dream.
Three wines to fill your glasses this Christmas and raise them in a memorable toast. And as the great Andrés Calamaro sang "From a corner of the world, I toast with you".
