La Canal del Rojo
“New wine from Bodegas Proelio. I’m in love with old vine Garnacha.”Tim Atkin MW.
Named after the eponymous vineyard, this red comes from 80-year-old Garnacha vines in Badarán. The soils contain depleted ferrous clay as well as angular colluvial stones on the topsoil. The old-clone vines are over 80 years of age and the wine is made with full clusters hence the character of the variety prevails. La Canal del Rojo is thus a different wine —fresh, fruity, mineral, and transparent as it expresses Garnacha’s elegant side, with wild notes; aromatic and persistent..
Tim Atkim 96 “Red Wine Discovery of the Year”
A Garnacha for every day, perfect for sharing by the glass or with a Valencian paella, a good hamburger, mushroom risotto or sheep’s cheese.
Ferrous sandy clay, with limestone veins that rise horizontally from the limestone bedrock that is 3 meters deep, with components of colluvial origin on the surface, which allows the vineyard to explore a lot of soil.
100% Garnacha wine, a selection of old clones from the area.
Manual harvest in 18 kg boxes, fermentation with its native yeasts in wooden vats with a percentage of 40% with stems. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation in concrete.
AGEING: Aged in 20 HL French oak barrels for 15 months.
