A wave of awards for Palacios Vinos de Finca wines
3 March 2022Using organic fertiliser in the vineyard is the culmination of sustainable viticulture.
30 March 2022There are young, old, classic, rebellious, innovative, avant-garde, contemporary, adventurous, sybarites... There are many fathers; luckily, Palacios Vinos de Finca and its three wineries -Nivarius, Proelio and Trus- offer you a wide variety of references to choose from and choose the right gift.
To make this task easier, we have selected five great wines that are perfect for Father's Day. Although, importantly, they should always be accompanied by a big hug.
For fashionable dads:
No matter how old they are, there are fathers who are never afraid to try new things, to find out what's new on the wine market and to be surprised with every gift: Lía by Nivarius Pét-Nat, a natural sparkling wine made using the ancestral method. Made from fresh 100% red Grenache grapes, with natural acidity, fermented very slowly and rested on lees.
For the elaboration of this sparkling wine, vineyards of more than 25 years old are selected from the Alto Najerilla area, located more than 650 metres above sea level. The result: a fresh rosé wine, with fruity aromas and sweet acidity.
From Ribera, from all his life
If your father is one of those who have clear wine preferences and a loyal lover of Ribera del Duero, then Pico de Luyas will win you the title of "Best Son of the Year".
A perfect reflection of the character of the best soils in Ribera del Duero: limestone soils, with bedrock very close to the surface and calcareous clay loam slopes where the vines grow in balance. The estate, located in the municipality of La Horra, is at an altitude of 900 metres above sea level and faces south. The result is a red wine full of riparian character, mineral, intense, sweet and full-bodied, to be enjoyed slowly.
Attention to its scores: Decanter 96, Peñín 95, Tim Atkim 91.
The classic:
On the opposite side, we find those parents who prefer not to take risks and go for the known. Parents who are not fond of surprises, but, on the contrary, know well what they want and in which wines they are going to find what they are looking for.
For this type of parents, the wines of Proelio, our Rioja winery dedicated to showing red wines that express privileged territories, are ideal. And among all of them, we can highlight Proelio Reserva, a Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano from old bush vines between fifty and eighty years old, from landscapes in the Alto Najerilla, the Sonsierra Riojana, and the Montes de Clavijo, an assemblage of soils that yields a complex and intense red, fresh, deep and with a powerful finish.
The sybarite:
They are undoubtedly the most difficult to conquer. They subscribe to specialised magazines, are knowledgeable about reviews and are always up to date with the latest news from all over the world. The cellar of these parents is overflowing with references from all appellations, vintages and origins. However, it still has room for gems such as Puerto Rubio 2018, from Bodegas Proelio (95 points from Tim Atkin).
This 100% Tempranillo comes from a plot of "singular vineyard of La Rioja", an identification that recognises its exceptionality and gives due prominence to the terroir it comes from; in this case, a plot of 1.63 hectares of 80-year-old vines planted at an altitude of 488 metres in San Vicente de la Sonsierra.
For the new father:
We leave for last the most tender typology: the new parents. For this type of parents, young and excited about the new appointment, any wine you choose will seem the best of all; however, it is important that you choose very well because this will be the first gift they will receive and, for sure, the most remembered and photographed.
For him we have chosen Nivarius Edición Limitada, a combination of viura from old vines on the slopes of Moncalvillo and Alto Najerilla and white maturana from the Las Arcas estate in Nalda. A powerful white wine that is aged in large capacity wooden casks to give rise to a structured, powerful wine, full of fruit notes and very expressive, which gains in nuances with time in the glass.
If you don't want to wait to taste it, on Father's Day you can accompany it with a good lobster rice dish, baked fish, truffled turkey, pickled partridge or red prawns. Is it or is it not a first celebration in style?
So far, our special selection for this Father's Day. Remember that you can find more information about each of the proposed wines on our website www.palaciosvinosdefinca.com
