The Peñin Guide 2024 gives a high score to Palacios Vinos de Finca wines

21 February 2024With the 2023 harvest now finished, at Bodegas Palacios Vinos de Finca we take stock of how this year's harvest has developed. A different harvest, especially marked by the amount of rain that fell during September, and which has developed very quickly in the white varieties.
Undoubtedly, the weather conditions influence the quality of the harvest. This year has been characterised by a very dry summer and very hot weather during the last few weeks, which has meant that part of the acidity of the grapes, the natural acidity of the wines, has been lost.
If we look at the different varieties we work with, this year will be the year of the whites. Especially spectacular is the white maturana, the best vintage we can remember in the winery, with which we make, for example, the single-varietal Finca La Nevera or the coupages for Nivarius Edición Limitada. We can also highlight the white Tempranillo, which we use in Nivarius, and the Viura from old vineyards, which always gives the best results, and which can be found in the single-varietal Valdesabril.
In the harvest of red varieties, there are two variants: on the one hand there is the Tempranillo from Sonsierra, which the rains caught it a bit riper and made the wines fresher and with more grapes; and on the other hand we have the Garnacha from Najerilla, which is a bit later, and all that water was very good for finishing its ripening process. We will soon see this reflected in the new vintages of our Lía sparkling wine.
In short, we can see that the rains have marked the development of the harvest: we opted for an early harvest. In fact, there were days when we were harvesting in Sonsierra and you didn't see anyone else. It is important to harvest at the right time. We don't care much about alcohol content or over-ripeness. We look for fresh and drinkable wines.
We have an incredible oenological team that knows how to demand the maximum from the vineyard and its fruit. We offer consumers the most sincere interpretation of our terroirs; wines that, above and beyond producing commercial products, know how to transmit the places they come from.
All in all, we expect more than special, spectacular white wines from this 2023 vintage.
