Sprouting, the green resurgence of life
4 May 2022From gifted soils, unrepeatable wines
22 June 2022Summer is a time to enjoy, to make plans and to make the most of every minute of the day... and of the night! That's why summer is also the time for Nivarius or, as we say at Palacios Vinos de Finca, our Rioja whites with freshness DNA. If we take a look at the Latin dictionary, we find that the very term Nivarius means "from the snow", in allusion to the altitude and the prevailing freshness of our estates, which is transmitted to our wines.
The vineyards of the Nivarius winery are located at altitudes of over 800 metres above sea level, facing north and influenced by the continental climate. Therefore, we can say that Nivarius is synonymous with freshness, fresh fruit and natural acidity.
For its production we work passionately with native varieties, such as white maturana, old vines of viura and white garnacha, and white tempranillo. And we seek out privileged territories in which we try to minimise intervention, carrying out honest agriculture that respects biodiversity.
Nivarius' obsession is the search for freshness and longevity in white wines. To achieve this, we vinify each small plot separately with the utmost respect, from the moment the grapes are brought in, either by selection table in 18-kilo boxes or by reception hopper, so that the wine reflects the typicity of each one.
This completes a way of working that always seeks the best expression of the territory and an honest elaboration with the raw material to enhance the aromas and flavours of the best Rioja whites, which give meaning to Nivarius.
Five references and a new wine: Finca La Nevera 2017
From a unique plot as Finca La Nevera: an extension of 4.3 hectares in the upper Iregua Valley, between 680 and 750 metres above sea level, comes our latest addition baptised with the same name: Finca La Nevera 2017. A white maturana varietal wine full of specific singularities and a true reflection of the land where it was born. A fresh, aromatic and fruity single varietal, with hints of wild herbs and mineral nuances.
Our winery's range of Rioja whites continues with Nivarius, a 100% Tempranillo white wine from vineyards in Albelda de Iregua and the Montes de Clavijo, located at an altitude of approximately 800 metres above sea level, which makes a fresh, unctuous wine with perfect ripeness, agile and pleasant to drink.
Nivarius Fermentado en Barrica, from a selection of vineyards located in Sonsierra Riojana, Albelda de Iregua, Montes de Clavijo and Nalda, is made from Viura, Maturana Blanca, Tempranillo Blanco and Garnacha Blanca, which are fermented and aged in Bordeaux barrels on their lees. This classically elegant white wine is aromatic and fruity, with floral notes, sweet, balanced, versatile, silky and long.
Nivarius Edición Limitada A combination of viura from old vines on the slopes of Moncalvillo and Alto Najerilla and white maturana from the Las Arcas estate in Nalda, this powerful white wine is aged in large capacity wooden casks to produce a structured, powerful wine, full of fruit notes and very expressive, which gains in nuances with time in the glass.
Valdesabril. From the unique plots of Alto de Najerilla, in an elevated area at 630 metres above sea level, between Badarán and Baños de Río Tobía, with poor soils of partially degraded sand with limestone flakes from the bedrock, we discovered, almost by chance, this Viura from old vines. A very fresh viura, with balsamic notes and delicate aromas, aged on its lees for just over a year, which gives it finesse and silkiness.
Finally, Lía by Nivarius Pét-Nat is a natural sparkling wine made using the ancestral method. The grapes come from vineyards over 25 years old and over 650 metres above sea level in the Alto Najerilla area. The soil where it is born is a mixture of ferrous clay and limestone with a sandy component of degradation.
Live and enjoy the summer with Nivarius, our Rioja whites with freshness DNA.
